DCG Cladogram Update: TBT Names

Post by Webmaster »

The DCG Cladogram has been updated so that it will now use permanent "TBT" names for mutations discovered by Alex Williamson on The Big Tree (TBT) and not named by either FTDNA, YSEQ, or YFull. This is being done with the permission and cooperation of Alex. The DCG has generated and is maintaining an independent database called YBase of Y chromosome mutations that includes YBrowse and select mutations from the ZZ and ZS spreadsheets on Google docs, as well as the new "TBT" mutations.

The decision to generate and maintain YBase arose out of the need to include mutations whose location on the Y chromosome precludes them being added to YBrowse, and is in no way meant as a negative comment on the excellent YBrowse database. It is merely an expansion of it to meet the requirements of the R1b-DF104 Y-Haplotree.

"DCG" names will continue to be used as short term temporary names until the mutation is either named by FTDNA, YSEQ, or YFull, or no such name is provided after a couple of weeks and then a permanent "TBT" name will be assigned. FYI, FTDNA seems to typically add new SNPs to YBrowse within a couple of weeks of them being discovered on a new BigY 700 test. However, FTDNA typically only names SNPs, but not INDELs and SUBs, which is why a preponderance of "TBT" named mutations are INDELs and SUBs.

If anyone has any questions, suggestions, or comments, please leave a reply post in this topic. Also, if there are any researchers interested in having access to YBase, which is a Maria DB, please PM and we can discuss details. Thanks!
